Woldingham School is our Girls Section partner and supporting the Junior Goalkeeper Academy and our Hockey Camps.
Founded in 1842, Woldingham School is a leading independent boarding and day school for girls aged 11-18. Woldingham’s grounds are among the most extensive in England and its beautiful 700-acre estate is just 20 miles from London. The school is popular with SW London families because of the fast and direct train links to Clapham Junction, coupled with the appeal of a top school that balances academic success with a well-rounded education and exceptional pastoral care.
Teaching is outstanding and Woldingham has an excellent track record of GCSE and A Level results, achieving 60% A*-A at A level and 65% 9-7/A*-A at GCSE in 2018. The school is ranked 65th in the independent school league tables and students gain places at a range of top universities, predominantly Russell Group and Oxbridge. Typically the school adds a grade at GCSE compared to potential identified on joining, placing it in the top 10% of schools for Durham University’s ‘value-added’ scores.
Woldingham’s co-curricular programme is rich and varied, with over 80 clubs on offer across the week. Athletes compete at local, regional and national level, and the extensive grounds provide a wide range of excellent sporting facilities. Artists can be bold and experimental in the purpose built art studio, while the Performing Arts Centre boasts an impressive 600-seat auditorium. Girls perform music and drama regularly and at the highest standard. Woldingham’s strong sense of community is deeply ingrained and academic fulfilment and personal development go hand in hand; Woldingham is a Catholic school which welcomes girls of all faiths or none.
Hockey at Woldingham
In 2018, Woldingham was awarded ‘excellent’ in all areas by the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI). The report found that: ‘Pupils are ambitious learners, eager to make progress’. Participation in competitive sport was also praised, ‘Active and skilful participation in team sports, including hockey, netball, tennis and skiing results in success in local, regional and national competitions.’ Woldingham coaches are experts in their fields, most having played and coached to national level. There is a busy fixture list and participation in District and County tournaments. Facilities are excellent and include a full sized all-weather astro and an indoor hockey pitch in the sports hall. Woldingham has been selected as a Performance Centre for England Hockey.
Sports scholarships are offered at 11+, 13+ and 16+. Applicants should be aiming to join the County Pathway, or be participating in Junior Academies, and playing in a club side is an advantage. The Director of Sport provides mentoring for scholars and there are weekly strength and conditioning sessions, Sports Seminars and a Sports Leadership programme in addition to the training, matches and tours that playing for the school team involves. Sports scholars have been supported by the US University coordinator with many securing sports scholarships at top US universities.
