London Wayfarers Hockey Club was founded in August 1989 in Battersea, South West London.
We have gone from strength to strength since our beginnings. We currently have more than 375 senior members in 19 senior sides (nine men’s and ten ladies teams) that play every Saturday.
One of the nine men’s sides is a veterans team that since the 2016-17 season, has turned out in the London Vets League.
In January 2010 we introduced our Junior section and this now boasts a membership of more than 500 girls and boys and regularly fields eleven 11-a-side teams across five age groups with many more playing at festivals. The intention is for juniors to transfer to our senior teams and continue to represent London Wayfarers Hockey Club at a higher level. In the 2017-18 season we will start a girls academy team competing at senior level.
The standard of hockey we play varies widely throughout the club. Our highest teams being performance based at a competitive level to more social orientated hockey further down the club.
The Men’s 1s play in South League Premier Division 1. Our other men’s teams compete in the Higgins London Hockey League.
The Ladies 1s play in the South Clubs’ Women’s Hockey League Division 2. Our other ladies teams compete in the Surrey Ladies Hockey League.
Our Junior section is split into age groups and enter competitions appropriate to their age and experience. Our juniors are in action every Sunday across South West London. We also offer midweek junior performance training sessions in Battersea.
Year-on-year our teams prove to be very competitive, gaining promotions across the board.
We may be a nomadic club, however our spiritual home is at Battersea Park. On Saturdays, you will find many London Wayfarers socialising in what we consider to be our clubhouse, The Draft House Westbridge on Battersea Bridge Road. For more information on our social activities throughout the season, please check out our events calendar.
