You can never have enough umpires…
Together with England Hockey we delivered a revamped course throughout the 2017-18 season to get more senior and junior players, parents and enthusiasts through the Level 1 Umpiring Course. In total nearly 150 new Level 1 umpires were added!
Since then EH have developed a Introduction to Umpiring course and together with the Level 1 these are now all available FREE ! London Area have tightened club umpiring requirements from the start of the 2025/26 season and with the Level 1 course now available for free we expect all senior Wayfarers players to have completed the course by the end of the season.
LEVEL 1 COURSE
You can sign up to an England Hockey Online course here: https://hockeyhub.englandhockey.co.uk/officiating-offer
In the meantime, for any support on hockey rules and umpiring please ask our Umpiring Officer, Dion Oliver. Please note he is not responsible for sourcing umpires for matches.
ASSESSMENTS
From the start of the 2025/26 season London Area will require both umpires to be Level 1 Assessed for all Grade 3 games — this covers Leagues 2 and 3 . This means that over time we will need to significantly increase the number of assessed umpires in London Wayfarers and our ambition is that all players in our Womens 1s-5s and Mens 1-Outlaws have that qualification so that all players in these teams are then able to take their turn umpiring club teams in these leagues
Please do get in touch if you would like to be assessed for your Level 1 umpiring course. Whether you have taken the course recently or a while back – please do get in touch so we can arrange an assessment for you.
THE MORE UMPIRES WE HAVE THE MORE HOCKEY CAN HAPPEN!
