A special match report from the Ladies 9s Captain Camilla Edwards

It started so well, Jen led the farm yard-themed warm up, we had the pep talk and promises of strawberry laces at half time. We even won the coin toss.

From the moment that whistle blew we had our game heads on, there were some fantastic passes and big runs. The ball was won back from some great press sets ups, the tricks we have been learning at training were coming out on the pitch which was great to see. We went into half time 2-1 down, eager for those strawberry laces, with only the one sub we needed the sugar boost.

Back out we went with a quick tactical decision to switch up the formation to become more focused on scoring those goals. Maybe it was the tiredness, maybe the over consumption of the sweets, or just sticky heat but we conceded two more goals. Some great runs were had down the pitch really making good use of the wings only to be caught out by their sweeper who seemed to be everywhere at once. Jen did some interesting one hand and one legged hockey before throwing her stick half way across the pitch.

As a team with some new players, back to hockeyers and juniors and a couple of hangovers thrown in for good measure we played well so we will ignore the 4-1 loss and focus on the positives. Much more importantly, whilst eating some pasta in back in the club house the nights plans were forming.

MOM goes to Joy for an incredible straight strike on goal during a short corner. TFC unfortunately goes to me… a missed goal after Jen set it up so beautifully.

Special mention for Jess W who made her debut in goal, she really committed to the position with a threatening run out and learning now to pose correctly with the helmet half on.
