Thanks to Ollie Coombe from the Men’s 5s for this week’s match report!

A bitterly cold Saturday morning saw a top of the table clash between London Wayfarers Men’s 5s and London Academicals.

The game started frantically with chances for both teams early doors.

Matt ‘Barthez’ Culmer made some brilliant saves to keep the Academicals out. Near the end of the first half a bit of space opened up for Andy Rosenburg on the edge of the D and he was as cool as a South Africa Chenin Blanc, drawing the keeper and slotting it away to put Ways 1-0 up.

In the second half tempers stated boiling over. Mike ‘Mad Dawg’ Coffin saw green for disgraceful time wasting as the Academicals pressed for an equaliser.

However the 5s have a reputation for being hard to break down (we’ve only conceded 4 goals all season) and held firm at the back for a gritty 1-0 win to go top of the league!
