After last season’s success We are continuing to offer free Level 1 umpiring courses in the 2018-19 season.

Last year our ‘Know the Rules’ project saw 150 London Wayfarers across the senior and junior sections take part in one of the 7 Level 1 umpiring courses held at Battersea Park and Crystal Palace. That means at the beginning of this season nearly 200 members have their qualifications. If you haven’t got your Level 1 umpiring qualification yet this will be your chance to join them!

Our aim is for all of our playing members to know the rules of the sport they play. We expect this to improve your hockey experience, behaviour on the pitch in particular interaction with opposition and officials and with a bit of luck get you some great results too. We don’t expect everyone to necessarily end up umpiring all the time but this will certainly make you a better team player!

For the senior section of the club, we are expecting a minimum of 8 members per team to be Level 1 qualified this season. This number will continue to increase in seasons to come as having your umpiring qualification and knowing the rules becomes the norm. Many already have but all U16+ junior players are expected to do the course. This is also a great opportunity for parents interested in becoming qualified to attend and help support future junior matches.
